Quick fault guide

What's your cylinder doing?

Pick the closest symptom for an honest first take: what it usually means, how urgent it is, and what we'd check first. For more, see our guide to common cylinder faults.

Priority visit

No hot water from the cylinder

What it usually means

  • A failed immersion heater or thermostat
  • A tripped safety cut-out doing its job
  • Programmer, controls or wiring faults

What we check first

  • Immersions, thermostats and cut-outs tested
  • Controls and programmer operation
  • Why it failed, not just what failed

How it works

From first message to fixed in three simple steps.

Send photos on WhatsApp

The cylinder label, the tundish, the pipework around the top and any leak. Two minutes of photos often saves a whole visit.

Get a clear first answer

We tell you what it likely is, how urgent it is and what it should involve, before anyone sets foot in your home.

Fixed properly, left tidy

An experienced G3-qualified engineer arrives prepared, fixes the cause and explains what was done. No mess, no mystery.

The work, not the waffle

What a typical visit looks like.

Three jobs we handle week in, week out, and how we approach them.

RepairLeeds

Megaflo with no hot water

Found
Failed immersion element and a thermostat that had been replaced twice without fixing the cause.
Done
Both immersions renewed, controls tested, safety cut-out verified, and the underlying scale issue explained.
Result
Hot water back on the same visit, with honest advice on preventing a repeat.

RepairHarrogate

Tundish running constantly

Found
Expansion vessel had lost its charge, pushing expansion water through the relief valve.
Done
Vessel recharged and re-tested, relief valve checked for damage, incoming pressure verified.
Result
Discharge stopped at the cause, not masked by swapping the visible valve.

Repair + serviceWetherby

Weak hot water upstairs

Found
Blocked inlet strainer and a pressure reducing valve set far below specification.
Done
Strainer cleaned, valve reset to the cylinder's rating, full service completed while on site.
Result
Proper pressure restored at every tap, and a cylinder that's now serviced and documented.

Repair, replace or install

Beyond repair? We replace and install too.

We're repair-first by instinct, most faults are a single part, not the whole cylinder. But when a system genuinely isn't worth saving, or you're upgrading, we supply and fit new unvented cylinders too, Megaflo included.

That means one honest, G3-qualified engineer from first diagnosis through to a brand-new system, with a clear fixed price before any work starts. Not sure whether to fix or replace? We'll walk you through both options before you commit, including dedicated Megaflo repairs and servicing.

New cylinder & installation

  • Like-for-like cylinder replacements
  • New Megaflo & unvented installations
  • Vented to unvented system upgrades
  • G3-certified and Building Regs notified
  • Honest repair-first advice, never a hard sell

Pricing guidance

What affects the cost of a cylinder repair?

Every system is different, so honest companies quote after seeing the fault. These are the four things that move the price, and we'll always tell you the cost before work starts.

Parts needed

A vessel recharge costs little; immersions, valves or expansion vessels vary by cylinder brand and model.

Access & layout

A tidy airing cupboard is quicker than a boxed-in cylinder in a loft. Awkward access adds time, and time is most of the cost.

Age & condition

Older systems sometimes need more than one fix. If a repair isn't worth the money, we'll say so plainly.

Urgency

Tell us if you're without hot water or dealing with a leak, because urgent faults get priority in the diary.

Good to know

Questions customers ask before booking.

Can any plumber repair an unvented cylinder?

No, and this matters. Unvented cylinders run at mains pressure and rely on safety controls. Work on them should be carried out by an engineer holding the G3 unvented qualification. That's our specialism, not a sideline.

Why is water dripping through the tundish?

The tundish is a visible warning point. A drip usually points to expansion, incoming pressure or safety valve issues. The drip itself is the symptom. We trace and fix the cause so it doesn't return.

Which cylinder brands do you work on?

All the common unvented brands: Megaflo (Heatrae Sadia), Gledhill, OSO, Santon, Telford, Range Tribune, Ariston, Joule and similar. WhatsApp a photo of the label if you're not sure.

How quickly can you come out?

Tell us the symptom and your postcode and we'll give you an honest answer straight away. No-hot-water and leak callouts get priority, and photos on WhatsApp help us arrive with the right parts first time.
