Annual safety & performance checks

Unvented cylinder servicing, for homes and landlords.

A careful annual service for pressurised hot water cylinders: safety valves, expansion, discharge pipework and controls checked by G3-qualified engineers who do this every day.

Why it matters

Small annual checks prevent expensive faults.

An unvented cylinder relies on safety valves, expansion controls and discharge pipework to run safely at mains pressure. When those are neglected, the usual results are tundish discharge, pressure problems, temperature swings, or a safety device doing its job the hard way.

Servicing matters most for rented properties, busy family homes, older cylinders, and any system that's already shown pressure or discharge symptoms. Many manufacturers also require an annual service to keep the cylinder warranty valid. Already noticed a problem? See our common faults guide.

Safer system

Safety valves and controls confirmed working, not assumed working.

Cheaper ownership

A recharged vessel today beats a relief valve and call-out next winter.

Warranty protected

Most cylinder warranties expect a documented annual service.

The checklist

What a proper service includes.

The exact checks depend on the cylinder and installation, but a thorough service confirms the key safety and performance components are working as intended.

Relief valve checks

Temperature and pressure relief valves operated and confirmed re-seating correctly.

Expansion check & recharge

Expansion vessel charge (or internal air gap) measured and restored to specification.

Inlet controls & pressure

Pressure reducing valve and strainer checked, with incoming and stored pressure verified.

Discharge pipework review

Tundish and D2 discharge route inspected for compliance, blockages and signs of past discharge.

Immersion & controls

Immersion thermostats and safety cut-outs tested; programmer and controls confirmed.

Visual condition report

Leaks, corrosion and installation concerns noted honestly, with photos where useful.

Recent work

Cylinders we've serviced and certified.

Every service finishes with the safety devices operated and the readings confirmed against the cylinder's own data plate. Two recent jobs: a full service on a 180-litre Santon Premier, and a Megaflo unvented cylinder we serviced and certified in Harrogate - each one checked at the temperature and pressure relief valve, the expansion relief valve, the expansion vessel charge and the inlet controls.

Recently in Harrogate: a Megaflo service

We serviced and certified this Megaflo unvented cylinder in a Harrogate home, checking the immersion and controls, the temperature and pressure relief valve and the expansion vessel, then dating the record for the next 12 months. It is the kind of annual service we cover right across Harrogate and Pannal.

Landlords & agents

Rental property servicing, without the chasing.

We work directly with tenants to arrange access, complete the service and send you a written record for your file, so a cylinder in a rental never becomes the thing nobody checked.

Written records

A clear note of what was checked and found, for warranty and tenancy files.

Tenant-friendly

We arrange access politely and directly, and leave the cupboard as we found it.

Faults flagged early

Anything developing gets reported with an honest recommendation, not an upsell.
